Mrs. Hunstad!
Thank you for your amazing leadership, advocacy for each and every one of our bees, kind heart, introducing so many new learning opportunities for our staff and students, and even greeting our students at the beginning and end of the day with your infectious laugh, giant boombox, and fantastic playlist! You keep our hive buzzing and rocking and learning! We appreciate you!

Dear Bee Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. As the leaves begin to change and the days grow shorter, we're excited to share some important updates about our school community.
Kiss and Ride Safety
Please remember to drive slowly and cautiously during our Kiss and Ride times. Your safety and the safety of our students are our top priority. Additionally, we kindly request that all students wear seat belts while being transported to and from school.
Cooler Weather
With the cooler temperatures approaching, please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather. Sweatshirts, jackets, and hats can make a big difference in their comfort. Don't forget to label all of your child's belongings with their name to help prevent lost items.
Principal Coffee
Join us for our upcoming Principal Coffee next week! We're looking forward to connecting with you and discussing the Advanced Academic Program and Title 1. Stay afterward for a PTA meeting. See you on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 5:45.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
It's that time again for Parent-Teacher Conferences! These meetings provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress and set goals for the upcoming months. If you haven't already heard from your child's teacher, please reach out to schedule a conference.
Amazon Wish List and Donations
We're always grateful for donations to help support our students. Please consider checking out our Amazon Wish List, where we've listed items that would be beneficial for our bees. We are in need of donations of extra clothing for students who have accidents or need a change of clothes. Your generosity makes a significant difference in the lives of our students.
Deliveries for Students
We kindly request that you refrain from delivering yourself or using Uber Eats/Door Dash for fast food to students during the school day. While we understand the desire to treat your child, outside food can disrupt our classroom routines, expose allergies to students, and potentially lead to unhealthy eating habits.
Town of Herndon Mayoral Forum
It was great to see so many parents at the Mayoral Candidate Forum last week. Thank you for saying hi,and it was nice seeing so many smiling faces.
As always, we are a team. Please reach out with any questions or celebrations you may have.

🏫NO School for Students
Monday, October 14
Office Closed until Noon
Monday, October 14, is a staff development day. There is no school for students. The office will be closed until 12:00pm for an all staff meeting. School will resume on Tuesday, October 15 at the normal time.
🍔Important Herndon ES Food Policy Reminder
for Parents and Guardians
Dear HES families,
We need your help. Recently we have seen an influx of outside food (Chick-fil-a, Wing Stop, Moe’s etc.) being delivered or dropped off for students. This causes additional work for our office staff and can create jealousy among students. Additionally, we are cautious of allergies.
Please do not drop off outside food for your child or set up an Uber Eats/Door Dash type delivery. Students are welcome to pack a lunch and bring it in or go through the food line.
The exception is for a special occasion; if you bring outside food, please stay with your child during their lunchtime. Do not bring additional outside food for friends in the class.
As always, thank you for your support.
Warmly,
HES Administrative Team

👓Vision and Hearing Screening for Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and
Students New to FCPS
Vision and hearing screening will be held throughout the months of October and November for all Kindergartners, 3rd graders and students who are new to FCPS. The purpose of screening is to identify students who need further evaluation due to difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones. If your child wears glasses, please be sure that glasses are at school on screening day. Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning. If you would like to assist as a volunteer with the screening process, please contact the Herndon ES Health Room at 703-326-3110 or the Public Health Nurse at [email protected]
