Herndon Elementary Return to School Information

Herndon Elementary Bell Schedule

Our bell schedule is 9:45 am to 4:15 pm for both virtual and in-person instruction.

HES Arrival, Dismissal, Pick up Student Early, Visitors, and Parking

We are eager to welcome our in-person students back to school!  Our most important priority is keeping everyone safe and stopping the spread of Covid 19.  Regarding transportation and visitors, we have altered some of our procedures.

Kiss and Ride:

Morning begins around 9:25 am and afternoon at 4:15 pm when the final bell rings.

  • The kiss and ride line goes along the side of the building to door 7.
  • If you choose to do kiss & ride please make sure you send in a note with your student or call the office.
  • Please do not send changes after 3:30 pm unless it is an emergency.

Buses:

In the morning, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to the bus stop.  In the afternoon, we begin calling buses at 4:15 pm at the second bell.

  • If you choose to pick up your student early or use kiss & ride, please make sure you send in a note with your student or call the office at 703-326-3100.
  • Please do not send changes after 3:30 pm, unless it is an emergency.

Picking up your Student Early:

  • Send in a note with your child and email the teacher, or if it’s last minute, call the office at 703-326-3100.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early before your desired pickup time.  You may park in the reserved spaces in the front of the building.  Call the office to let us know you have arrived.
  • Please arrive before 3:35 pm to avoid the arrival time of our afternoon buses.

Parking:

We have very limited parking available.  Due to social distancing and safe recess procedures, we have blocked off the Kiss and Ride parking lot on the side of our building with cones for more space.

  • There are three parking spaces in the front at Door 1 reserved for short visits, such as student pick up and drop offs, registration, and tech support.
  • There is limited  street parking available on surrounding streets.

Visitors:

Office Hours are 8:00am-4:30pm

We are limiting the number of visitors who enter the building.

  • Unless it is an emergency, we are allowing visitors into the building by appointment only.
  • Otherwise, we are happy to meet visitors outside the front door.

Walkers:

Dismissal is 4:15pm ~ Walkers meet parents on the blacktop at the playground.

Herndon ES Return to School by Grade Level

Students who have selected in-person instruction, will return to school in a phased-in approach.

Mondays will be asynchronous and virtual for all.  On Tuesdays through Fridays, they have 2 days in person and 2 days virtual and synchronous.  Your child will receive their specific days.

Mondays will still be a full day of independent learning for all students to give our classroom teachers more time to prepare and plan the week’s lessons.  Students may still be working with reading/math interventionists, our AAP teacher, ESOL teachers, special education teachers, or other specialists.

All students are still required to log in for their morning meeting, attendance, and to receive their asynchronous assignments.

Health Screening Commitment Form needed from Parents Prior to Student Return to School Buildings

As many students return to in-person instruction, parents and caregivers will be asked to acknowledge a Health Screening Commitment form before their student(s) re-enter school buildings. This document confirms that a parent, caregiver, or guardian will complete a daily health screening and will keep their students home when they are ill.

The Health Commitment form can be submitted electronically through ParentVUE (PVUE) or via hard copy. Please contact your child’s school to have a hard copy sent to you.
